Green Environmental Policy for Norfolk Company

10/9/2009
Blue Sky Leisure, which has Kelling Heath and Woodhill Holiday Parks, Blue Sky Homes and the chain of Fine American ZAKS restaurants in Norfolk, is continuing its green transport policy by acquiring a further two low emission vehicles.  The two Mini Clubman Cooper D's, bought from Listers, replace two 4 wheel drive pickup trucks.

These compliment the fleet of vehicles already purchased including a further Mini Clubman Cooper D, a BMW 123d, a Toyota Prius and a further three electric- powered onsite vehicles for use at Kelling Heath Holiday Park and Woodhill Park.

Blue Sky Leisure has drastically reduced its CO2 emissions and its running costs. For example the Mini Cooper Clubman D has CO2 emissions of 109 gram per kilometre, which is more than half of that of the vehicles all 3 replaced.

As part of its transport policy it also encourages staff to lift share wherever possible, reduce unnecessary journeys and has kitted its Holiday Park Maintenance staff out with bicycles to get around.

Ian Hacon, CEO of Blue Sky Leisure said: “These changes will help us on our quest to considerably reduce our carbon emissions across the group as well as delivering great savings in running costs. By carefully choosing what greener vehicles you buy you can still have the benefits of luxury motoring or practicality without the impact. I love my Clubman!”

Recently, the company recruited a full time Environmental Officer, Nicola Badley, to help deliver its vision of being passionate about the environment.

Nicola said “Our transport policy is part of wider Environmental Management System that I am in the process of implementing. We have already implemented a number of initiatives throughout the company including the new green fleet and there are many more to come.”

Editor’s Note:
The vehicles do about 15k miles per annum = about 24000 km = a saving of around 2.64 metric tonnes of CO2 saved per vehicle or equivalent of insulting a fairly large home.
